Friday November 20, 2015 celebrated one year since Didi and I met as designers for the Annual CBS Good Day Sacramento Designer Challenge. I entered it with my amazing friends Bindi and Samantha as assisant and model, and Didi was assistant to another designer. Her team won, but I feel like I won the jackpot, meeting Didi that day. I could never have created the Paris collection without her talent, flair and dedication. And now this year, full circle, I was her assistant with Jayden Aveena as model. Same rules as always, each team received a bag containing 3 fabrics (we all received identical) and an awkward item. We had 5 minutes to shop for extras and 1.5 hours to create a design. Thanks to beautiful and mischievous Good Day anchor Courtney Dempsey, we were given lime green taffeta, burgundy taffeta and gold lace. And a garland of plastic gold bells as our awkward item. Eeek! Earrings, for sure….!
Didi didn’t have any plan until she saw the fabrics. She immediately sketched a form fitting dress with a v in front, zipper in back and a multi layered fish tail. We shopped like crazy people for threads, cords, black lace and zipper. Then the action was on! Seeing Didi work her magic is amazing. She put me to work on the layered flounce and she started draping, pinning, snipping and sewing. And voilà! We won! We didn’t see the hour and a half go by, it was super fast paced but never stressful with Didi around. And SO much fun! Jayden looked amazing! Didi sewed cord loops into the front and back v lines and then laced them with the same cord- so clever, it gave texture and statement. Sexy elegant goth, as she does so well. Didi will have her Sugaretii line of clothing showcased live on Good Day Sacramento next month. GO Didi!!! So proud of her!
